Aug 11, 2013

When it comes to back to school shopping for freshman students there's no need to make a list with the obvious items like notebooks, pencils, erasers and pens. You probably have a whole drawer stuffed full of school supplies like those that you can re-use. Within this article we'll be mentioning 5 supplies every freshman student should buy and we want you to focus on items that might not have immediately come to mind. If you can't think of any off of the top of your head then all you have to do is read the rest of article to find out what they are!

Highlighters for those Important Notes that you Just Can’t Miss

Without question, your freshman year of high school or college is going to be spent reading textbooks and making lots of notes. Your studying can go a whole lot easier if the words on the pages of your notebook or textbook that you purchased stand out. That's what highlighters are for, so make sure you get one in every color imaginable and always keep at least one on hand or in your backpack.

Don't Drive a Hard Bargain

External hard drives might become the most useful school supply of any student – freshman, sophomore, junior or senior – because of how often they might have to use one throughout the course of the school year. Whether you need to save your essay, visual presentation or school syllabus, an external hard drive will eventually become full of school related computer files. A 500GB hard drive should do the trick and provide you with enough room for years’ worth of school files. Just remember to keep a backup, as you never want to have to re-write a 10,000 word essay.

A Calculating Mistake...

...would be not buying a graphing calculator! Once you get to high school your courses are only going to get more difficult and that goes double for math. Algebra, geometry, and statistics are a few examples of the types of advanced math classes you might be taking and if you don't have a graphing calculator to help you make the correct calculations you're asking for trouble. A graphing calculator goes above and beyond the call of duty that any old scientific calculator can provide. So either be prepared and get your hands on a graphing calculator or be squared.

The Perfect Combination of White Board and Note Board

You're going to have a lot on your plate throughout the school year and you need to have some sort of method to remember everything, be it test dates or study group reminders. A combination dry erase/cork board is the must have reminder school supply. While it might not actually be an item that you take with you to school every day, it's nonetheless of great importance. Whatever you need reminding can be written up on the dry erase side and erased as soon as it's completed and anything more important can be written on a sticky note to be placed on the cork board side. You can even use it as a study aid by tacking school notes on the cork board and visually studying your notes.

You're Going to Have to Put All Your Supplies Somewhere!

Finally, the last school supply every freshman student should buy is a backpack. Did you just expect to walk around with each of the supplies we mentioned from class to class? We sure hope you weren't thinking that. A backpack might be the most essential school supply because of its role in ensuring the safety of all your other supplies. If you lose your ruler or textbook there's a good chance you left it in your backpack. As long as you keep tabs on your backpack you'll always have your school supplies on hand. Plus, you can pick out a backpack that matches your style and turn it into a fashion statement. What other school supplies can say that? If you make it a priority to purchase each and every one of the items we mentioned your school year should go off without a hitch and if you're careful enough you'll be able to use most of the supplies you bought in your sophomore year of school!
