Originally, I was (poltically) agianst the war, I was with all the "conspiracy" theroies and stuff, then I read up on them and found out how bogus, imo, they are. I seriously doubt that the whole war was created for oil...I just don't beleive that.

I have always been in complete support of our troops over there though. I despise anybody does other wise! I don't care if you agree with the politics behidn the war or not, support the troops! It makes me sick be in the same country as these people who don't support our troops!

I do not understand why we are over there. It seems like first they believed Bin-laden was there, well no Bin-Laden. Then it appears that they thought "Oh well we will just find weapons of mass-destruction. Saddam must have some cosidering the US gave him weapons during the 80's to fight Iran." Well we couldn't find weapons of mass destruction. "Well we have to get involved in Iraq somehow otherwise we will look like idiots. Why don't we free the people!" Giving people freedom is all well and good but why not help starving countries or countries that are in worse condition than Iraq?

Did we not send aid to the tsunami victims?

I do not believe that the war is over oil. I laugh when I hear people say that. I have always felt that Saddam needed to be overthrown and a new person be put into power. However, I am doubting the effectiveness of a democratic government in the middle-east. Now sure, it sounds nice, but you must look at the cultures of the region. The book "What Went Wrong" by Bernard Lewis outlines why democracy wont work in the middle-east. It is mainly because their religion prevents democracy. Their religion prevents them from advancing through aid from "non-believers" and the fact that the family is controlled by one person fights the principles of democracy. Also, when you look at it, women are looked upon as being inferior and have virtually no rights, and it used to be rare to find due process of law.

I support the fact that we overthrew Saddam and are actively hunting terrorists. While we still have yet to find WMD's, there is much evidence of their existance.

Even if I fail to agree with certain military actions, I will always support our troops.

While I am new to this board this topic made me want to say my mind even though I know a lot of people will disagree with me. Personally I think that the war with Iraq has to be the worst war we have fought in since Vietnam. I think that Bush is only doing this because of his father. I also think that he handled the whole situation horribly. Everyone asked him not to go but he still went because of this "weapons of mass destruction". Yet we found none. Also if it was about "freeing the people" then why didn't we help during the genocides of Rwanda?

As a matter of fact I do. I don't know where you got that quote but I didn't say it. I don't like Bush. But it because of his politics and the way he handles issues. I also don't like him because of his prejudices against everything that doesn't fit into his picture of what it should be. I also have to wonder if you even read my post. Oh and by the way God LOVES EVERYONE NO MATTER WHO OR WHAT THEY ARE.

Technically, Iraq and Vietnam are/were conflicts.

His quote was in no way a summarization of what I said. I merely made my feelings be heard. Also what he had to say after the "quote" was just plain hurtful and ignorant. I don’t know about him and his beliefs but I was taught that God loved everyone. I also do not that when 1700 have died that what is going on in Iraq can be categorized as a “conflict”. May be you two think that just because I don’t support this war means I don’t support our troops. I do support our troops. I fully believe that if given the choice they would all want to be home with their families. I make no personal attack to either of you and if you perceive my comments as personal attacks I apologize for that. I just believe the exact opposite of your beliefs on this war.

Well, if you want to get even more technical about definitions, technically both the conflicts in Iraq and Viet Nam were simply large battles. Iraq is one battle in the larger war against radical Wahhabi Islam and the proponents thereof, and Viet Nam was merely one battle of containment against the CCCP during the Cold War.
