Okay so for my final play this year, my senior year, we are doing our town. I have the role of emily. If any of you have read or know of the play i would really like so imput for emily. She is an amazing character and i want to really make her come alive and i would like to hear some other ideas than my own.. Any help would be great thanks.

Oh, we did Our Town last year! I loved it. Haha. Hmm Emily... Well, the girl who played her in our play really got into the part; she had the whole theater crying at the end. Really put your heart into the role; ie, during the second act, when she's dead, and looking back at her life, cry if you can. As for making her come alive, for the first act, our Emily was portrayed as the almost naive local school girl. I guess a good word would be "innocent youth." She was never portrayed as an overly confident girl, but more like a quiet, shy, girl, who didn't realize her full potential until later in life. I hope this helps somewhat.

yeah you know thats what i've been doing...well at least you know starting the process. My Emily i picture as very sweet and gentle in the first act but like you said very naive. The hardest one to get a hold of is the last act most specifically her last speech saying goodbye to the world, all the little things we take forgranted in life but realize they mean the most to late. I know this sound terribly self centered but i really want to make people cry, and believe that emily is a real girl, not just me with my part. Fortunatly for me, two of my best friends are my parents and both great and bad my boyfriend is George, great because he is a terrific actor and a lot of the tenderness and deep connection between them is there and will come through, bad because we are so different from george and emily im afraid of us coming through instead of them..... Oh who were you in OT if you dont mind me asking?

Wow. That's great that your friends and boy friend are in the play with you! I agree; the hardest one is the last speech. There is so much emotion in it. I hope you can make people cry. I'm sure you'll really bring her to life. I was a random church member, as well as a dead person in OT. But, really, I was the stage manager/assistant director. I just kinda filled in where needed. It was interesting being on stage. Haha. I found out I was going on twenty minutes before the show started.

lol oh thats such a great feeling - last minute roles!! (yeah....right). lol anyway, yeah i think im just having doubts about her because im so different from her and any other roles i've had. I've always been bery strong, independant fierce girls, but in a very blatent way, not the way that Emily is, you know. The friends thing is great, i mean half my friends are theater kids so its great, and i think it will really work for dynamics im just a little hesitant about keeping my relationship from creeping i and over powering george and emily....yes were actors and were not crap... but were still human lol

Haha, well not you get to experience being the total opposite for a few hours each day. I wouldn't worry too much about the relationship creeping in, as George and Emily were in love and whatnot; see if you can work your own relationship in the roles. It might be a bit...different, but the audience will love it! And every now and then you need a totally different role to really appreciate the ones you like/normally have. :)

oh i love that emily is so different than all the other roles i have gotten its funny really this play is the exact opposite of our sterotype casting we usually have and we love it - i play a sweet innocent girl, My boyfriend finally gets to be much like himself only smarter and less awkward instead of the complete asses he usually gets, my best friend gets to be a loving mother and my ladies man, man about town, leading man, friend gets to be a older father. Its a dream come true. lol and i guess an upside to the whole "already a relationship thing" is that a lot of people will come to see our play just to see how we are and if we really do have the wedding scene lol (which we do of course) I know a lot of girls who really hate me because i get to kiss him onstage and then go home with him after lol its kinda funny
