The answer when you love the person is ridiculous because unless you've loved and lost how is a "young adult" supposed to know when love happens. I, having a girlfriend, find that everyday I fall a bit more towards love or what i assume love is.
Note: this could easily be put in a debate thread but i feel it wouldn't attract the audience i'm looking for. So share your stories and your opinions, I'm in this for the responses.
I have yet to say "I love you" to anyone. It is a very special and almost sacred thing to me. I guess you could say it has been a bit watered down today by people saying it all the time. But it really is whatever your definition is. To me, when someone says "I love you" they're almost saying "I want to spend the rest of my life with you" or atleast it's a possibility. It's just one of thoes things that you'll just know when to say it. This special little switch will go off and you will be in love :]
But hey, that's just me.

To be honest, me n my bf have dated for more than 2 years now and we've been saying I love you since our one year anniversary...
Love doesn't depend on what age your at..It will come at you whenever you're least expecting it..sure you'll feel as though you're not ready and still a bit naive, but hey...I'm 16 and feeling quite sure that I wanna spend the rest of my life with the guy I'm with now!! ^_^
Basically what MexicanaChulax said, you'll know exactly when to say I love you cause It'll really hit you at the right moment.
And yeah, this sacred phrase is used much more than it should be nowadays..but eh, if they find a need to say it that often then that's their prob...
What I'm trying to say is that even if you're still "young" it doesn't make it ridiculous for you to say I love you...I mean if you really mean it and really have feelings for that person...Love is the correct word to use, so just use it...to that person of course!! >_<
If I didn't make sense, call on me and I'll explain it in better terms okk? Hope I've kinda answered your question....

I think I'm in love? It's crazy. But something clicked the other day. I think I am. It scares me it really does. I don't even see the guy I used to date but the more I think about it the more I believe it. It just seems that no one can really take his place I guess. I'm too scared to tell him though. Im just scared that time has changed things and how he feels about me. But other than that I think I'm in love!

in my opinion you know you love someone, when you dont see them as this perfect ideal person with no flaws, but you know those faults and you love them, when you can see that person as who they really are, and not who you think you can make them be eventually and you can just be yourself around them and not feel that you have to be better than you really are and impress them. When you find the right person....it feels like you found home. Its hard to explain but when it hits you, you know. trust me.

i agree entirely with the above and have actually done the same myself and find it interesting that a counter thread has appeared. it seems to me that emotional commitment and the fear of being hurt where the headlining points. to that all i can say is as you get older and meet more people, eventually you just click with someone and move forward.
yeah, its just when you get tht certain feeling, its different, and you kinda just got to encounter it

as with most emotions love does not follow logic. thankfully.
but that has some very serious implications. so maybe one day you think you like somebody, then the next you think you love someone, then the next maybe not so much. that isn't love. love is unconditional. love is one of the strongest forces in the universe and we can't truely experience this with another person. we can try, and imitate it, but really true love is not a person to person thing.
I am a Christian. Ask me about my faith. Challange me.
that has some truth, but i do beleive in a type of love between do people. its different than say a love between god and a person, because god loves in an uncomprehensible way. but, at one point in your life, you will experince a strong love for someone, and while thats no godly love, its a strong emotion that you feel and cant explain through words in a little box.

yes love is unconditional but how can you possibly say that love is not communicated between people? Love is a driving human emotion and is can be a beautiful thing, but it is meant to be experienced with others, for others, towards others. Call me a romantic, naive, or what you will but i believe with all my soul in love. There is nothing in the world that is a unique and strong as the bond between two people who love eachother, platonically, or romantically.
