DBQ 11 From the American Pageant 13th Edition

Alright tommorow i have to write the DBQ on page A127 of the American Pageant 13th Edition.

The question is,

Historians tend to portray the 1950s as a decade of prosperity, conformity, and consensus, and the 1960s as a decade of turbulence, protest, and disillusionment. Do you agree or disagree with this view? In answering this question, address to what extent these two decades differed from each other politically and socially.

I really don't know much about anything in that question so if anyone can give me any ideas or anything that would be great!

Yikes, your teacher's quick. You posted this about a month ago, so i'm guessing by now you don't need the help anymore... but i do, did you discuss it or learn anything about it? I have to write an essay on the exact same thing but have no idea what to say, i really think the two time periods are very similar.

Look at the status of various wars around the time period in questions. 1950's, WW2 just ended. How had WW2 affected the economy? Hint: It was positive. ;) This was still being felt as well as a strong sense of nationalism.

Compare this to the wars and the nation's reactions in the 1960.'s

Thank you!

i'm working on it now, and i've been reading documents and information about the sixties and the "yippies," i know you probably know this but i'll put it out there anyway for anyone else who might read this: the sixties were indeed very turbulent as people began to riot and protest against the Vietnam war. The 1950s were a time of economic prosperity and social "conformity and consensus" for the most part.
