I have a DBQ due on the question
"Although New England and the Chesapeake region were both settled largley by people of English origin, by 1700 the regions had evolved into two distinct societies. Why did this difference in development occur?"
Help.
New England fostered urban development in which manufacturing was the economic key, whereas the Chesapeake region relied on the cultivation of tobacco. Also, mainly families migrated to New England helping create a different type of society in which the idea of a "grandparent" was invented.
Dude, I have the same Essay question. One of the major differences was geography. The geography in the Chesapeke region was more open and flat. It was perfect for farming and growing tobacco. Because it was so vast many of the people lived far away from eachother which didn't allow much sociatal growth. Whereas the geography in the New England region was more rigged and isolating. The climate was harsh and the settlers had to pull together to survive the cold winters. Because everyone lived in villages and lived so close they were able to grow into more of a self-governing society. With elections and voting and stuff. The purpose of why people settled in these areas was also a deciding factor. Farming int he south, religion in the north.
