As sea levels dropped, it exposed a land bridge connecting Eurasia with the continent of North America in the area of the present-day Bering Sea between Siberia and Alaska. Small bands of nomadic Asian hunters ventured across this bridge. They were most likely following migratory herds of game. These people were the immigrant ancestors of the Native Americans. Gradually (over a 25,000 year time span) they dispersed southward down ice-free valleys, populating both the American continents.
