Tom Sawyer RTL Think of others before you do things. In the story Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, a boy named Tom Sawyer witnesses a murder and than becomes lost in a cave with the murderer and must escape. In the beginning of the book Tom is carefree and indifferent. For example Tom tricks his peers into helping him whitewash a fence, even making them pay for the privilege. It is obvious that he will do anything to escape work. This also shows that he is a fain?ant boy.
