Jun. 1914 My name is Leroy Gericault. I am 20 years of age and I am from Versailles, France. I am a French marine, my duty, to attack against all odds and if support is lost, than, to stand my ground and wait until support arrives. I am being assembled by French officials, after only a few weeks of training, to take part in what I can only imagine to be a war greater than any other. I expect nothing less than to die fulfilling my duties, and for that reason? I have never in my life been as scared as I am today. Jul. 1914 Gut 1, 4, 5, 7
