Earth Science Vocabulary No. Word Definition Sentence Picture 1 Mineral A natural inorganic solid with crystals and a chemical composition. Some examples of minerals are quartz, diamonds, and rubies. 2 Crystal A solid body with a characteristic internal structure. Most of the crystals I see are quartz. 3 Magma Molten material beneath or within the?earth's crust. Magma is from volcanoes and forms igneous rocks. 4 Silicate Any of the?largest group of mineral compounds. Some minerals that belong in the silicate family are quartz and mica. 5 Hardness The state or quality of being hard. The hardness of diamond is 10 on the Richer scale. 6 Luster The state or quality of shining by reflecting light. Satin has a lot of luster when light is on it. 7 Streak
