Lauren Lopez Mrs. Young AP Psychology 22 August 2012 History and Approaches Describe how philosophical perspectives shaped the development of psychological thought. Psychology is able to trace roots from India, China, the Middle East, and Europe. Different philosophers such as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle have helped to determine the link between body and mind. Their difference of opinion caused for the word psychology and the science itself to be redefined. Because of these thoughts, we were now able to realize that psychology is not the science of mental life, but is actually the scientific study of observable behavior. Describe and compare different theoretical approaches in explaining behavior: -structuralism, functionalism, and behaviorism in the early years;
