Katie Mace AP World History AP Summer Assignment Vocabulary 1. Civilization- an ambiguous term often used to denote more complex societies but sometimes used by anthropologists to describe any group of people sharing a set of cultural traits Some of the first societies that had these characteristics were the Tigris and Euphrates in Iraq, the Indus in Pakistan, the Huang He in China, and the Nile in Egypt. People in civilized areas are engaged in specialized, non-food producing activities and are in status distinctions based on accumulation of wealth. Civilizations have a monumental building and a system for keeping permanent records.
