Confederates marched on Gettysburg, 13ooo, half killed/wounded by Union heavy artillery. 1863, first 4 days of May, the South defeated North in Chancellorville. Jackson caught pneumonia and died on May 10. Gettysburg- Confederate troops heard there were shoes there, decided to march there. Met fire from Union en route. Confederate uprising, took control of the town. Seminary Ridge- Union still had high ground. Rebels tried attacking it and taking it but Col. Joshua Chamberlain held off attacks. Ran outta ammo and ordered bayonet attack on Rebels. They were tired and surrendered. Day 3, Lee ordered artillery attack on Union. They responded. Continued for 2 hours. Union artillery silenced.
