It has been?used?for more than 150 years in hundreds of millions of patients.?Dental amalgam?is a mixture of metals, consisting of liquid mercury (50%), and a powdered alloy composed of silver (~22-32%), tin (~14%), copper (~8%), and traces of indium and palladium. In 1819, a Mercury-based dental amalgam filling was invented?by the English chemist, Bell.
