Macromolecule (Polymer) Monomers (Small Units) Function Key Notes Proteins (Polypeptides) Amino Acids - made of 1 common group - 1 side group (?R? group - Cell membrane - All of them contain proteins - Make enzymes to help chemical reactions - Make antibodies - Make up non-steroid based hormones - Proteins make molecules (Ex: chair, nail) - THINK: Proteins= membranes, enzymes, antibodies, non- steroid hormones, structural molecules, ?MEANS? - Ex=animal products and enzymes - Protein shape matters - Different Shapes = Different Jobs - Proteins fold and twist into 3-D shapes - Proteins do their jobs because of their shape - Wrong Shape = No Job (denaturing) o Caused by changes in ph. and or temp. - Unfold Shape = No longer
