English Final Study Guide Application of Literary Terms Point of View- the way a story is told by someone or something (Ex: First Person P.O.V., Second Person P.O.V., or Third Person P.O.V.) Imagery- ?visually descriptive or figurative language, esp. in a literary work Flashback- the part of a literary work when a character thinks back about a time in the past Aside- a brief remark by a character (in a play) revealing thoughts or feelings to the audience, unheard by other characters Tone- Tone is the attitude a writer has towards the subject they're writing about Simile- a literary term involving one thing compared to another different thing using like or as Diction- the choice and use of words or phrases in literature
