No Way for Women in Norway Norway in the late 19th century consisted of countless laws restricting the rights of women. Women were raised believing they had no self-government or voice as they were hidden under the shadow of dominant males in every aspect of society. This time period also gave no opportunity to women in terms of active citizen partnership and owning property. A Doll?s House sparked controversy in 1880s Norway as Henrik Ibsen successfully depicted a woman struggling to survive in a man?s world and how she broke social standards set in that time period.
