Defendant is the accused wrongdoer in a criminal or civil lawsuit. 3. Damages are monetary compensation that the defendant will have to pay for harm done to the Plaintiff. 4. In civil law, when a person commits a wrong, it is called a tort compared to a crime in criminal law. For example Automobile crashes may result in civil lawsuits. 5. For example a person who breaks into a house has committed a crime and can be prosecuted by the state. The offender has also committed a tort, and the victim may sue for monetary damages. 6. Remedy is something to make up for the harm that has been done.
