Chapter 7 The Road to Revolution The Deep Roots of Revolution Fresh new word led to new ideas and bred independence Believed in republicanism- citizens willingly subordinated their private, selfish interests to the common good Whigs of England who warned citizens to watch out for corruption influenced the colonists These two ideas made colonists aware of their rights No British rule and private land ownership made colonists feel independent Main Idea: With distance from Britain, and republican and Whig ideas, the New World was already somewhat independent and liked it Mercantilism and Colonial Grievances Britain had been paying a lack of attention to its colonies
