Hall Anthony Hall Dr. Beckford Honors Literature 10/Period 3 3 January 2017 Lord of the Flies Setting Lord of the Flies takes place on an uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean in an unknown year, probably the 1950s, during a fictional nuclear war. Readers do not learn much about the environment until the characters do, so they get the same initial thrill of exploration and satisfaction of discovery. The overall setting, which is the island, never changes. It is seen from various perspectives, however, as the different characters go on their own journeys. For example, Ralph is helping the ?youngins? construct huts for shelter, while Jack is in the forest hunting wild boar.
