After various plagues the Pharaoh allows them to leave which is called the EXODUS. The Israelites live in the desert for 40 years- Moses goes up MT> SINAI which is where God gives him the 10 COMMANDMENTS. He is gone a long time and the people start worshiping idols. As punishment, only those under 20 are allowed to actually go to Canaan (roughly corresponding to modern-day Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and the western parts of Jordan and Syria) which is called the PROMISED LAND- FULL OF MILK AND HONEY	6
