As we have all come to know, high school is a time busy with preparation for, according to our parents, the best and most expensive four years of our lives: college. But how on earth is there enough time to do everything? School, sports, chorus, volunteering, work, and attempting to maintain at least some semblance of a social life. This is modern day high school. So we at Course Notes have come up with a few tips to help the high school student out with time management.
-DO NOT MULTI-TASK. If you start one thing, make sure you finish it before moving onto the next thing. This way, you wil be able to get things done faster and concentrate on other things.
-If you don't need the computer for typing or researching or studying, don't use it until your homework is finished. Do your studying away from a computer. Computers are distracting and will add unnecessary time to your workload.
-When it comes to non-constructive activities like TV, videogames, or facebooking, try to keep them to a minimum. If you can't help it, alot an hour or two for your favorite TV show or hanging out with friends. But keep in mind that extracurriculars also take time out of your schedule.
-If you have work or you know of something you have going on ahead of time, plan ahead. Although procrastination sounds good, your body will thank you later when you get more sleep.
-DUH DUH DUH. The parents. Scary sometimes, and it may not be a stretch to say they all want you to get the best grades possible. So they nag and bother you about school etc. But take a time out every day for 10 minutes at least to do something not related to school and get away from mom. Then, get back in there and get it done! Not doing schoolwork as a type of rebellion will hurt you more than it will hurt your parents.
-Regarding extracurriculars, ALWAYS do what they ask. If you need to be at a game or a practice, be there and don't be late. You need extra activities just as much as you need grades and test scores to get into college. And besides, it's fun, right?
Lastly, it looks like a lot, but take some time to relax as well. Remember, high school is four years of your life you'll never get back as well. So breathe and just focus on one thing at a time, and before you know it, everything will be finished!
