Congress Drafts George Washington -Congress chose George Washington to head the army besieging Boston -Washington was a great leader and a firm patriot -The selection of Washington was mostly political 2. Bunker Hill and Hessian Hirelings -Colonists were inconsistent- affirmed loyalty to the king but were also fighting battles -June 1775- Bunker Hill- colonists fought until they ran out of gunpowder -1775- Continental Congress promoted ?Olive Branch Petition?; however King George III rejected them because of Bunker Hill -News of Hessians shocked the colonists because they were foreigners in a family war -Many Hessians deserted and became American citizens because they acquired land 3.
