End of Year Checklist for Seniors

Apr 26, 2012

If you are a senior in high school that is getting ready to graduate there are some things that you are going to need to keep in mind. It is really important that you put together a checklist of things that you need to do in order to make sure that you are taking care of everything that needs to be done. If you fail to put together a checklist there is a chance that you will miss a few things that are really important- the end result could be some pretty negative consequences. Avoid all of this by being mindful about the responsibilities that you have to take care of.

The first thing that you need to be absolutely sure on is that you are set to graduate high school The sad truth is that some seniors blow off the second half of their senior year only to find out that they did not pass the classes that they needed for graduation. It is a good idea to be very proactive and make sure that you are all set to graduate from high school. The best way to be proactive is to meet with your guidance counselor to discuss your classes and to make sure you will be able to graduate with the rest of your classmates. Remember- if you fall short of the requirements there is nothing your school can do. The state mandates what you need to have passed in order to graduate.

Once you are certain that you are set to graduate you need to make sure that you have all of your applications for college turned in. These applications should most definitely be turned in mid-way through the year which means they will be one of the first things to be crossed off of your list. When you do send in these applications it is always a good idea to have them proofread by a teacher. This will help to eliminate any errors or mistakes that may be on them. The fact of the matter is that if you turn in college applications that have errors on them there is a good chance that you will not get accepted into that school. Proofreading is important if you are serious about getting accepted.

Also, one thing that needs to be on your checklist is turning in all of your paperwork for the college you are going to attend. Once you have decided on a school they will send you paperwork that needs filled out and mailed back in. For example, you will have to fill out information for residence life about your roommate preference, etc. If you fail to get this paperwork turned in on time you may be out of luck when it comes to getting the room of your choice. The sooner you get this stuff in the better.

The last thing that you will want to do is register for your classes. At many colleges this can be done late in your senior year. Once you are registered the only thing you need to do is enjoy your summer and get ready to go away to college!
