Proserpine, also known as Persephone was the daughter of the god Zeus, the supreme ruler of the dwelling place of the gods, Mount Olympus, and the goddess Ceres, also known as Demeter. Demeter was the goddess of the harvest. She watched over the grain, the fertility of the earth, the seasons, and the harvest. She also presided over marriage sanctity, sacred law, and the cycle of life and death. She and her daughter Persephone were the central figures of the Eleusinian Mysteries.
