Natural Selection Def : Natural selection is the process by which those heritable traits that make it more likely for an organism to survive and reproduce become more common in a population over successive generations. Background: Both the spotted and spotless bugs are Asian lady Beetles, but with different number of spots. One similarity they share is that they both have big false "eyes" and two white football-shaped spots behind the head. Figure 1 The multicolored Asian lady beetle can have as many as 19 spots, or it can have no spots. The Struggle for existence: Organisms produce more offspring then can survive. A female Asian Lady beetle can produce up to 3,819 eggs at a rate of 25.1 eggs per day. These eggs are laid on plants, trees and under objects, like a log.
