Equipment: Filter Bunsen Burner Magnet Hot Plate Beaker Wire mesh Evaporating Dish Scale Graduated Cylinder Spatula Funnel Lighter Chemicals: Iron Filings Sand Salt Hazards: Bunsen Burner (gas, open flame) Hot Plate (very hot) Beaker (glass) Lighter (flame) Procedure: Weigh out 3.25 grams of mixture Use magnet to separate iron shavings Pour sand, salt, and 20 mL of water into filter paper, inside the funnel Set up ring stand Take the water that went through the filter paper and put it in a beaker Put wire mesh onto the ring, and place the beaker on top of that
