In the novella Anthem, by Ayn Rand, Prometheus is a unique individual living in a society where uniqueness is a transgression. Prometheus has a thirst for knowledge that cannot be filled in the society he lives in. While Prometheus was growing up, he had always wanted to be a Scholar, however the Council chose him to be a Street Sweeper. This did not stop him from learning. Prometheus continued to look for the secrets in the earth. He believes that men can only know these secrets if they intentionally discover them because if they do not seek it, then they will not understand it.
