In the novella ?Anthem? by Ayn Rand, the characters are named after figures in Greek Mythology, Prometheus and Gaea. Equality changes his name to Prometheus after he breaks the rules of society to help his brothers. Liberty changes her name because she is the only woman in Equality?s new society. Their actions are reflected in the myths of the Greek figures. Equality names himself Prometheus, as they are both the bearer of light and defy the rules of society while Liberty takes on the name Gaea to symbolize the mother of a renewed society.
