Question for Research Papers

Can someone help me pls... I need a research question on colonial America. I'm thinking of discussing religion (Puritans) or maybe slave trade. But I dont know what question will be best. Not necessarily easiest, but question that have controversy and a lot of discussions in it :)

It's should be a long (but not very long) research paper, around 2000words and there should be ALOT of citation and footnoting... I have access to American digitized document databases. But I dont have a clue on what question I should work on.

Thx!

Btw, I have 2 research papers about Early America.
The first one is the one above (Colonial America)
The second one must be about The Atlantic World System (That is, I can discuss about Spanish, Portuguese, French, Latin America, Africa, anything that has sth to do with the New World)

And yes, I also need to make up my mind about the research question for the Atlantic World also.

I'm interested in discussing either the European impact on America, or America discovery impact on Europe. But I'm not sure how to focus on a narrower topic. Advice is extremly appreciated :)

Both papers due next month. Still a lot of time. But I need to make up my mind about the research question by next monday!!

Well, at the moment, I can say maybe "To what extent did Colonialism worldwide affect Great Britain's influence and the influence of those of Spain, Portugues, and France in shaping the New World?" While we're on that, you can get rid of the worldwide stuff and say "To what extent did colonialization affect Britain and the 13 Colonies and who was more affected?"

"Was Columbus's blunder a good or bad worldwide?"
"Why does the US celebrate Columbus Day and what is the real signifigance of Columbus's 'accidental' discovery?"

etc etc. yea.

capitalization? who the heck came up with this horrible rule?!

Yeah, bassoonist@large has some good ones.

So for colonial America, topics could be something like, "Which was more immoral, the slave trade of the American Indian natives, or the Africans?" which have to deal with ethics, or just a, "Religion vs. Economics in colonial slave trade." And if instead you want to talk about Religion, "Were colonial Puritans hypocritical in their own religious (in)tolerance?" or "How the Puritan religion influenced the society, government, and economy of the New World."

As for the other essay, maybe the role of European disease? (yeah, that's a bit overdone, but whatever.) Or you could talk about the migration of plants, from the New World to the old. (Like potatoes and corn and stuff) You could talk about the colonies in terms of the mercantilism economic system of Europe.

Um, I dunno, really, but contact me if you want any other suggestions. Good luck!
