Today in Geography On March 14th a coalmine in Northwest Pakistan collapsed, which has killed five workers and has trapped several others. More than two-dozen workers have been pulled to safety since the collapse; however, others remain inside. Over 100 troops have been sent to the mines to aid in the rescue of the remaining workers, but the depth of the main is making attempts difficult. The cause of the collapse was due to very heavy rains, which have led to the deaths of at least 16 people including the coal miners. This relates to geography in many ways including distance decay, the hydrosphere, push/pull factors, productivity, and situation factors.
