i decided to write my research paper about the cuban missile crisis

i can't think of a solid 3 argument for my paper.. so far my thesis is:

America’s continued superpower competition with the USSR, its desire to halt the spread of Communism, and _______, motivated the Soviets to deploy nuclear weapons in Cuba.

does anyone have a suggestion for a 3rd idea?
