Why did the Neutrality Laws fail to prevent Americas growing involvement with the military conflicts in Europe and Asia?

I've been searching for hours for this subject and didn't come up with much. My teacher explained that it may help to think of the prompt as why did the laws make it inevitable for the US to join the war. When I looked more on those lines I found that the laws were designed for the wrong type of war (WWI) and that the acts waved neutrality by the "cash and carry". Other than the that.. I could use a LOT of help! Thanks!
