Hello,
First post! :D Anyways, i'm really need help with my AP Bio hw...i'm not sure if any of you guys have already done it already? It's called: Ward's Courtship and Copulation: Is Behavior Learned or Programmed? Student Study Guide. Well, i'm really lost right now..and I don't understand any of the questions, at all. Basically, my class didn't even learn anything about this topic, so i'm screwed..I was just wondering if yuo guys could please help me? Usually i'm not this desperate...anyways, i need help with around 11 questions
Here they are:
2. Can you think of some ways an organism might be reproductively isolated from his or her own species?
3. Assume that two populations of squirrels have been isolated from each other for a long period of time (Perhaps by mountain rang, canyon or river). A researcher brings the two groups together and finds that they are two different species. Which do you think probably occured first, the geographic isolation or the reproductive isolation? explain.
Analysis:
1. As stated before, courthsip and copulation are essential activities if a set of genes is to be passed on. On the other hand, there are selective pressure that make reproducting hazardous. What are the hazards of reproduction?
6. It seems that a post copulatory display would be an enormous waste of energy by the male. Hypothesiz a reason for a post copulatory head nod series.
7. Imagine that certain minor behavioral changes occur to indicidual Nasonia. These imaginary changes are listed below. In the spach below each change, disucss whether you think this change would be selected for or against survival. Explain your answers.
7a. A female does not lower he antennae until twnty head nods by the male.
7b. A male produces more concentrated pheromones than other males.
7c. A male continues to head nod after the female lowers her antennae.
7d. A femael signals receptivity by raising her abdomen, but does not lower he antennae.
8. THis study and all of the above scenarios assume something about behavior. What is that assumption?
10. List three courtship behaviors that may be consisten in all humans.
11. Discussion topic: A mal produces no pheromones, performs the head nod series and is usually rejected. During one attempt he finds a female who will copulate with him. Is this the beginning of a new species? explain.
Okay, those are all the questions...i'm really sorry for taking your time, but i seriously need some help, no joke, so if you guys could please help with these questions, that would be great! :)
