India from the Mauryas to the Mughals Overthrow of the Mauryas occurred in the early 2nd century B.C.E.-followed by several hundred years of disunity because the continent was divided into separate kingdoms. Dominate force in the North- Kushan State, established by Indo-Europeans who had been driven out of C. Asia by the Xiongnu. Kushans penetrated into the mountains N. of the Indus River. Next 2 centuries the Kushans expanded their supremacy along the Indus and into the Ganges Valley. Dynasty began to weaken in the 3rd century C.E.
