Umer Chaudhry Ms. Lislevatn French Revolution 1. There were many significant, precipitating causes of the French Revolution. One of the primary causes was the fact that the French royal government could not command sufficient taxes to finance itself, after its increase in spending with the American Revolution, its own colonies, and other situations that ultimately led France into an economic collapse. France?s high corruption in regards to taxes and popular sovereignty led many members of the Third Estate, the vast majority of the French population, to begin to boycott the adherence to the policies of specific assemblies and rebel against the French governments unfair collection of taxes.?
