March 22, 2012 A Tale of Two Cities Chapter Analysis: Book 2, Chapter 2 Plot Summary: Jerry Cruncher receives orders from the bank clerk to go to Old Bailey, the courthouse, and wait for orders from Jarvis Lorry. He learns that Charles Darnay is on trial for treason, for he allegedly gave the king of France, Louis XVI, secret information on England?s plans to send troops into the American and Canadian colonies. While observing the beginnings of the trial, Cruncher notices a particularly striking girl who appears to have a strong amount of passion for the defendant, Darnay. Cruncher then learns that this girl and her father are testifying against the defendant. Theme: Social injustice (unjust justice system)
