March 22, 2012 A Tale of Two Cities Chapter Analysis: Book 2, Chapter 2 Plot Summary: Jerry Cruncher receives orders from the bank clerk to go to Old Bailey, the courthouse, and wait for orders from Jarvis Lorry. He learns that Charles Darnay is on trial for treason, for he allegedly gave the king of France, Louis XVI, secret information on England?s plans to send troops into the American and Canadian colonies. While observing the beginnings of the trial, Cruncher notices a particularly striking girl who appears to have a strong amount of passion for the defendant, Darnay. Cruncher then learns that this girl and her father are testifying against the defendant. Theme: Social injustice (unjust justice system)

April 23, 2012 A Tale of Two Cities Chapter Analysis: Book 3, Chapter 3 Plot Summary: Lorry fears that sheltering Lucie and her family might compromise Tellson?s business, so he finds somewhere else for Lucie, her daughter, and Miss Pross to stay and leaves Jerry Cruncher to watch over them. Defarge delivers a message to Lorry under Manette?s orders and Lorry leads the Defarges to where Lucie is staying. Defarge then delivers a note from Darnay to Lucie, which over joys Lucie and gives her hope. This hope is then crushed by Madame Defarge?s evil character and sinister stares. Theme: Trusting your gut
