Module 1 Introduction to Scilab 1.1 Introduction MATLAB and Scilab are (mostly) equivalent software packages commonly used to perform scientific computations. Scilab (http://www.scilab.org ) is a MATLAB clone and is the open source software we will use throughout the workshops this semester. A full and proper introduction to Scilab requires more time than we have so here we will only go through the very basics. 1.1.1 Some basics If you feel you need more assistance, type help at the Scilab prompt, or pull down on the Help menu on a PC. It is important to make sure that your current directory is the directory where you are going to save all your work to. You can click File !
