Chapter 10 Notes o The emperor Constantine reunited the Roman Empire under his sole role o In 395 the empire was divided into a western and eastern division o Both halves came under pressure from the westward migrations of the Germanic peoples fleeing a new invader from Asia, the Huns o Gaul, Britain, Spain, North Africa all fell to various Germanic peoples in the early 5th century o Rome itself was attacked by the Visigoths in 410 o The last Roman Empire was attacked or deposed of in 476 o Rome’s decline marked more than the end of the mighty empire, it signaled the end of the long era in which the eastern Mediterranean Sea was the center of a group of interrelated societies and economics in Egypt, Syria, Anatolia, and Tunisia
