He was twenty years old, of ?average length,? muscular, handsome, and curly-haired. He was ?a lover and a lusty bachelor? (he was often preoccupied with women) and chivalrous. His youth made him even more attractive, however signified his inexperience on the battlefield. Although he had only fought in three battles (Flanders, Artois, and Picardy), he displayed much courage and bravery, nonetheless. Chaucer?s attitude toward him is tolerable, as he is young and has a while to go before becoming a full knight, and appreciative of his youth and determination. The Prioress
