In New York, the board of Regents approved a ?nondenominational prayer? to be read each morning in some public schools in New York. The Regents thought that the prayer would be of good use to develop good character and citizenship among the students against the communism crisis. Parents of some students at New Hyde Park schools disagreed with the reading of the prayer and filed a suit in New York court to ban the prayer saying it violated the students own religious beliefs.
