Case: Santa Fe Independent School District v. Doe Background: Before each home varsity football game the Chaplain of a school would come on the loud speakers and publicly pray a prayer to a God overtly Christian. Both a Catholic and a Mormon Family filed suit, challenging this practice. Issue: Does student lead prayers at public high school football games violate the Establishment Clause? Court's Decision: The court ruled that student lead prayers at public high school football games was unconstitutional. This decision was made because it was taking place on government property and approved by the government to take place during a government funded event. ______________________________________________________
