Shelby Langford World History DBQ By 1945, the wartime alliance of World War II was crumbling under the weight of conflicting ideologies and mutual distrust. And so, in 1945, one major war ended and another began known as the Cold War. The beginnings of this Cold War were born through Russian dictator, Joseph Stalin whose two goals in Eastern Europe were rejected by Churchill and Roosevelt. Stalin wanted to spread communism throughout the area and strived to create a buffer zone of friendly governments to work as a defense against German forces, who had invaded Russia during World War I and once again in 1941.
