Intertidal Zone Tessa Gebhart What is it? The intertidal zone is the area of the foreshore and seabed that is exposed to the air at low tide and submerged at high tide, the area between tide marks. Also known as the littoral zone. There are four areas of the intertidal zone. Spray Zone This area is dry much of the time, but is sprayed with salt water during high tides. It is only flooded during storms and extremely high tides. High Tide Zone Area is flooded only during high tide. Middle Tide Zone This area is both wet and dry due to it being uncovered twice a day by the tide going out. Low Tide Zone Usually underwater and only exposed when the tide is unusually low ANIMALS Abiotic Factors Animals in the rocky intertidal zone are fully exposed to the elements.
