Ok....can somone shed more light on when/what/who/where this situation im going describe? I completely forgot...it was when the Americans and south koreans invaded into north korea and eventually got close to china/manchuria. Then i think it was Mao who got mad and allied w/ the north koreans and pushed the americans and south koreans back. And then the president fired the general based on not following orders. Anyone recall this?

This was during the Korean War (1950-1953) and this specfic event took place in late 1950 or early 1951. The Korean War started wit N. Korea invaded S. Korea and kicked N. Korea owned the South. However after the support of the UN and under the command of General McArther the S. Koreans/UN forces made a brilliant counter attack and pushed the N. Koreans near the Chinese border and the war was thought to be almost won but then the Chinese came into the picture and S. Korea/UN forces were pushed back and Seoul, the captial of S. Korea, was captured again President Truman who didn't like McArther very much fired him for disobeying his orders of not to go too far into N. Korea. S. Korea retook Seoul and pushed up to the modern day border where there was a stalemate for about 2 years and then a cease fire was signed ending the fighting.
i heard that McArthur was fired because he asked Truman if they could use the atomic bomb on N. Korea and China. Unfortunately Truman was so troubled by the Japanese attacks he refused and then fired McArthur.
That's pretty much how MacArthur getting fired took place - however, MacArthur also ridiculed Truman publicly, so he was fired for insubordination. Even if he was the Supreme Commander of the US Forces, he still responded to the Commander-in-Chief... Bad way to suck up to your boss, if you ask me...
