I need help coming up with some more ideas for essay, I know a lot of what I'm going to put in it, but I'd still like to hear some ideas....the topic is,
"Compare and contrast the ways in which economic development effected the politics in Mass. and Virginia in the period from 1607-1750"

Food for thought... Virginia was a place for growing tobacco. And they needed workers. So they did the "headright" thing where if you bring indentured servants you get land. Huge plantations. Retards growth of cities. Rule of landed white males (gentry), etc. Freed servants go west for land b/c planters have eastern land. Leads to Indian attacks. 1676 Nathaniel Bacon's rebellion b/c governor won't protect them. B/c of this, planters start using black slaves more.
In Mass, mostly family units of Puritans seeking religious freedom. Crappy soil causes small farms. Not many plantations. Church as center of life. B/c of that, ppl lived close to town, attended meetings, voted. (Direct democracy for male church members) Cod fishing caused growth of ports, e.g. Boston.
