dbq help!!

my dbq is "to what extent had the colonists developed a sense of their identity and unity as AMERICANS by the eve of the revolution?"

it seem so easy but...im blank..nooo ideaa on how im gonna start this

They were united in their suffering, but bear in mind that there were nearly 1/3 of them that stayed loyal to Britain throughout the revolution. So they were united, but only a bit. I think. It's 11:00 where I live and I'm brain-dead... XD
