I'm taking APUSH and it really sucks for me. I have a lot of trouble following along in the book and my grades show it. We have to read SO much a night/week that I can never remember anything that I have read. On the first test we took on Chapters 1-4 I got a 58. There were only 3 people in my class that actually passed. Does anyone have any suggestions on any websites that are really helpful with studying? Aside from this website? I need something that has different notes for the chapters than this website has because our teacher gives us the notes that are on this website.
Also, anyone who is in AP US History.. We don't get a lot of grades therefore when we screw up on a test it ruins our averages. What things do you guys get graded on in your classes? We have had like a test grade and like one or two HW grades. Is there anything that your teacher does that you find really helpful? Thanks.

Nothing really. In my APUSH class we get test every three days on each chapter and we are always asked to write our own chapter summary which is graded and essay homeworks. writing a chapter summary in my own words makes it easier to understand which really improves my test grades. And there are practice test for each chapter on www.college.hmco.com. hope it helps

Thanks both of you guys for the sites.
Beauty: I have been to that site before but it didn't help me all that much for some reason. I don't know just me I guess.
Spartanchurch: Thanks, I'm checking it out now.

my teacher only grades us by the tests, quizzes, dbqs, and thesis statement papers.
i must say it is incredibly hard and everything is graded difficult.
by the 3rd day of school i was already making a C in the class, so i came in early to talk to my teacher and he told me that i should be summarizing the chapter even though its not worth a grade. i have been doing that and it is truly amazing and it shows by the grades i make.
honestly summarize the chapter in full length. if the chapter is 20 pages long, than your summary notes should be at least 15. include details because those will end up in quizzes. hand-write the summaries because than it will actually comprehend. after handwriting the summaries, you can type them up. i don't type them up, but whatever floats your boat.
always read the chapter every night that you are working on it. if you do not, than you will find yourself behind.
sit in a chair with your book open, paper out and pen to take notes and thoroughly read the chapter. this honestly helps.
if the summarizing the chapter in great detail is not working, than consider going in for tutoring. i go into tutoring even though i have one of the highest grades in all my teachers classes. if you go in for tutoring, your teacher will realize that you care about this class and are putting effort towards it.
do not stress over ruined GPAs because colleges will notice that you are taking a rigorous course. just try your hardest.
oh and i am no longer making a C in the class. lol. it is an incredibly low A.i honestly believe summarizing works.
and yes it is very time consuming, but going into an ap class you should always be sure you have time for such a class.
i was asked to do the same thing in my class and it helps a lot but it's really stressful cos the chapters are really long. we get tests on each chapter every three days and summarizing the chapters helped me to go to class prepared. certain days i turn in an incomplete summary.

just like you ... i'm stuck and fallen behind as well. Though however, many notes taken from this website, the unit notes, and the book titled UNITED STATES HISTORY- PREPARING FOR ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMINATION by John J. Newman & John M. Schmalbach were very helpful. Seriously, when i read the book and the notes, it helps me understand better than the Bailey book itself. :D Good Luck with your class.
Yeah, I've been sitting down with my book lately writing down the important things down during the chapter when I get to them. On my first test I got a 58 and missed 17 questions, and on the one I took the other day, I got a 73 so far (a take home essay still has to be averaged in) and I only missed 9. So I'm doing better. The end of our marking period was yesterday so we will be getting our report cards probably next weekend.
