Jefferson was a very interesting character in American History, and their were good and bad things to his character.

Good:
-During his Presidency he was able to change his personal political views to see what was best for the country at that time. For example, Jefferson was pro strict-interpretation of the constitution, yet even though the constitution did not say anything about land purchases, he looked by that to get the Louisiana Purchase.
-He continued the Bank system, something he opposed during its creation, yet helped the country.
-He did not fire all the Federalist workers; he kept the ones doing a good job.
-He tried his hardest to keep the country out of war, something that would destroy our country at the time.
-He was able to use force if necessary, ex. North African Barbary Pirates.

Bad:
-He was not as resolute as he could have been. Ex. the Embargo Act would have worked if he had kept it in place longer.
-He had intimate relations with a few of his slave's. However this was a common practice at the time, I personally consider it a immoral practice.
-he HAD slaves. "All men are created equally"
-He wanted a revolt every 10-20 years to get a new government. That’s his personal beliefs, again I just personally don't agree with that.

So just make your own opinion. Hope that helped

jefferson was against slavery even before the constitution was written he had a mistress on the side that was one of his slaves that he loved very much and a few children have been traced back to belong to the two of them. In his first draft of the constition he included that all men are created equal and said that slavery in the states illegal. but it was changed do to the fact that many would not have accepted it had it said that at the time.

Yep I believe he also fathered a son with a slave girl.
